Happy 97th birthday of Republic of China

Today is the 97th birthday of Republic of China. Taiwan celebrated its “Double Ten” National Day today. On October 10, 1911, an uprising occurred in Wuchang, China. Provincial leaders then declared independence to topple the Qing Dynasty.

President Ma Ying-jeou presided over ceremonies at the Office of the President in the morning and delivered a National Day speech, the first by a Kuomintang president in eight years.

After that, a mass rally took place at the Presidential Plaza, where a military parade would be held. A fly-by over the Presidential Mansion to marked occasion. Wang Jin-pyng, president of the Legislative Yuan, spoke at the mass rally.

Overseas Chinese representatives also spoke. Close to 10,000 Chinese community leaders from all over the world were there and joined in the National Day celebration. Ma addressed them at an evening party held at the stadium of the National Taiwan Sport University in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan.
